Lentil Okra Soup

1 cup brown lentils
2 1/2 cups water
1 medium onion
4 cloves garlic
3 medium tomatoes
1 carrot
6 okra pods
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
Salt, to taste
5 cups water

Rinse lentils and boil in water until thoroughly cooked, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. Meanwhile chop all vegetables into bite-sized pieces. In a soup pot, add vegetables, cooked lentils and remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil on high heat, then reduce heat to medium and cook until vegetables are tender, about 12 minutes. Serve hot to 6.
