During the 1960&#8217;s most mothers had this strange concoction brewing on the counter and then would turn it magically into a delicious dessert.<\/strong><br \/>\nWell they are making the rounds again and they taste better than ever. This modern recipe version cuts the complicated process down to ten days from the original thirty to fit in with our busy lifestyle.<br \/>\n<strong>If you feel the urge to make the original brandy variety you will still have time to have the delicious cake for Christmas if you get started this week. <\/strong><br \/>\nFriendship cake is a little bit like a chain letter, because you have to find a set of friends willing to take the starter and share the tasty cake with you. I guess that&#8217;s why its called the friendship cake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TEN DAY  FRIENDSHIP CAKE<br \/>\nStarter batter: Day one:<br \/>\n1\/3 cup flour<br \/>\n1\/3 cup sugar<br \/>\n1\/3 cup milk<br \/>\nMix together ingredients and pour starter into a large glass or plastic container. Cover loosely and do not refrigerate. Stir every day.<br \/>\nDay five: Add to starter batter:<br \/>\n1 cup flour<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n1 cup milk<br \/>\nCombine and stir every day.<br \/>\nDay six, seven and eight: Add to starter batter:<br \/>\n1 cup flour<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n1 cup milk<br \/>\nCombine and stir every day.<br \/>\nDay nine: Stir starter batter.<br \/>\nDay 10: Remove one cup of starter batter and divide into three parts. Give this recipe and 1\/3 cup batter to two friends. This is day one for them. Save the remaining 1\/3 cup to begin another starter for yourself.<br \/>\nTo the starter left in the bowl, add these ingredients to bake the<br \/>\nTen Day Friendship Cake:<br \/>\nFriendship starter batter<br \/>\n3 eggs<br \/>\n2\/3 cup vegetable oil<br \/>\n2 cups unbleached white flour<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n1 \u00c2\u00bc (one and one-quarter) teaspoons baking powder<br \/>\n1 \u00c2\u00bd (one and one-half) teaspoons ground cinnamon<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) teaspoon salt<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) teaspoon baking soda<br \/>\n1 cup chopped nuts<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd cup raisins<br \/>\nMix all ingredients together until blended well. Pour into two buttered and sugared loaf pans. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 50 minutes or until center of loaves are done and the cake has a golden color.<br \/>\n<\/strong> <script><!-- D([\"mb\",\"\n\\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) teaspoon salt\n\\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) teaspoon baking soda\n\\n1 cup chopped nuts\n\\n\u00c2\u00bd cup raisins\n\\nMix all ingredients together until blended well. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 50\\nminutes or until center of loaves are done and the cake has a golden\\ncolor.\n\\n\n\\nORIGINAL BRANDIED FRIENDSHIP CAKE\n\\nStarter:\n\\n1 \u00c2\u00bd (one and one-half) cups Brandy or starter juice\n\\n1 20-ounce can peaches with juice, do not drain\n\\n2 \u00c2\u00bd (two and one-half) cups sugar\n\\nCombine all ingredients and mix well. Place in a gallon jar and loosely\\ncover. Let stand 10 days at room temperature and stir every day. Mash\\nthe peaches during the stirring and fermenting process.\n\\nOn the 11th day:\n\\n2 cups sugar\n\\n1 20-ounce can crushed pineapple, packed in juice\n\\nAdd to brandy mixture and stir well. Cover loosely and continue stirring daily.\n\\nOn the 21st day:\n\\n2 cups sugar\n\\n1 20-ounce can fruit cocktail, packed in juice\n\\n2 9-ounce jars Maraschino cherries, drained well\n\\nAdd to brandy mixture and stir well. Cover and continue stirring every day.\n\\nOne the 31st day:\n\\nDrain juice and save for starter or give to a friend with this recipe.\\nStarter juice will keep in refrigerator for four weeks. Use starter\\njuice to replace brandy and begin with day one.\n\\nUse the fruit to make three to five cakes. Fruit can also be frozen to\\nuse at a later time. Also great as a topping for ice cream.\n\\nOn the 31st day: Bake the cake.\n\\n1 \u00c2\u00bd (one and one-half) cups brandied fruit\n\\n1 box yellow cake mix (no pudding in the mix)\n\\n2\/3 cup vegetable oil\n\\n1 cup chopped walnuts\n\\n4 eggs\n\\n1 small box instant vanilla pudding\n\\nCombine all ingredients and mix well. Pour into a lightly oiled and\\nfloured bundt pan or two loaf pans.
