Layered jars containing hearty whole grains, vitamin-rich dried fruits and berries and high-protein nuts along with the easy recipe for a healthy breakfast or dessert is a thoughtful and delicious gift.<\/strong><br \/>\nAny jar will do, but tall thin jars with wide mouths, like canning jars, are easiest to layer. Shape a clean sheet of typing paper into a funnel and pour ingredients slowly into the jars to fill them in the layers they are listed in the following recipes. Tamp the jar slightly between each layer to level ingredients and release any air bubbles.<br \/>\n<strong>When the person on your gift list is ready to prepare your \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcpresent\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 they just have to stir in a couple of fresh ingredients, such milk or eggs and start cooking. <\/strong><br \/>\nDecorate each jar with fabric and a ribbon to attach the recipe. This fun present may be just the thing for the person who has everything, because these gifts look pretty, taste great and are good for you, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong> LAYERED BLUEBERRY ALMOND PANCAKE MIX<br \/>\n1 1\/4 (one and one-quarter) cups whole wheat flour<br \/>\n1 tablespoon baking powder<br \/>\n1 teaspoon baking soda<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) teaspoon salt<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) cup organic brown sugar<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) cup dried blueberries<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) slivered almonds<br \/>\nCombine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl and stir well. Carefully pour into one-pint jar with a tight-fitting lid and pack down lightly. Layer remaining ingredients attractively and pack down each layer before adding the next. Seal jar and cover top with a small piece of decorative fabric. Use a large rubber band to fasten the fabric into place and trim if needed. Wrap with a festive ribbon and attach the following recipe to make 10 pancakes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1 jar Blueberry and Almond Pancake Mix<br \/>\n1 1\/4 (one and one-quarter) cups low-fat milk or soy milk<br \/>\n1 slightly beaten egg or soy egg substitute<br \/>\n1 Tablespoon vegetable oil<br \/>\nPour the layered ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir well. In another small bowl, stir milk, egg and oil until mixed well. Add liquids all at once to pancake mixture and stir just until blended, do not over mix. Set aside for five minutes while griddle is heating over medium-high heat. Brush hot pan with a little olive oil. Pour one-third cup portions of batter onto hot skillet. Cook two minutes then flip to other side and cook two minutes more or until golden brown on both sides. Serve with maple syrup. Yields 10 pancakes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LAYERED OATMEAL RAISIN WALNUT CAKE MIX<br \/>\n1 \u00c2\u00bd (one and one-half) cups whole wheat flour<br \/>\n1 teaspoon each: baking powder and baking soda<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) teaspoon salt<br \/>\n2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon<br \/>\n2 teaspoons ground nutmeg<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) cup quick-cooking oats<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) cup organic brown sugar<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) raisins<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) white raisins<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bd (one-half) chopped walnuts<br \/>\nCombine flour, baking powder and baking soda. Pour into one-quart jar and pack lightly. Combine cinnamon and nutmeg. Carefully pour just around the edge of the jar. Layer all remaining ingredients attractively. Seal jar, decorate and give with this recipe.<\/p>\n<p>1 jar Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Cake Mix<br \/>\n1 \u00c2\u00bd (one and one-half) cups buttermilk or add 2 Tablespoons vinegar to soy milk<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00bc (one-quarter) cup melted unsalted butter<br \/>\n2 lightly beaten eggs or soy egg substitute<br \/>\nPour the layered ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir well. Make a well in the center and add all remaining ingredients. Stir just until blended, do not over mix. Pour into a lightly sprayed or oiled square pan and spread evenly. Bake for 35 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool in the pan for two hours on a wire rack.
